Pride Falls to Lynx in NECC Action

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Two late second half goals lifted Lesley University past Regis (Mass.) in New England Collegiate Conference Women's Soccer action tonight at Edward Field. The Lynx, winners of five of their last six, jump to 9-4-2 on the season and 4-1-0 in NECC play while the loss drops the Pride to 7-5-1 overall and 3-2-0 in the conference.

Lesley sophomore and reigning NECC Player of the Week Samantha Bessey (Algonuin, Ill.) broke a scoreless tie in the 73rd minute with her seventh goal of the season in what was the game-winner for the hosts. Bessey's unassisted effort was her second game-winning tally of the season.

The Lynx offense continued to pressure the Pride defense before freshman Kaitlyn Scott (Glendora, Calif.), who just substituted onto the field, broke through for an unassisted insurance goal in the 87th minute. The goal was Scott's second of the season.

Lesley controlled the ball for the majority of the evening and outshot their guests by a 14-1 margin, including a 10-0 advantage in the second half. The Pride's best scoring opportunities came off a pair of corner kick opportunities in the final 45 minutes, the first coming with the game still scoreless in the 56th minute before a last-ditch effort in the 87th, but both attempts were cleared by the Lynx backline.

Regis freshman keeper Amanda Matias (Ludlow, Mass.) made eight saves but suffered the loss for the Pride while her counterpart, junior Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, Mass.), did not make a save while earning the win and her third shutout of the season.

The Lynx will wrap up their regular season home slate and celebrate Senior Day this Saturday when they play host to Wheelock College at 7:00 p.m. The Pride will also be back in action on Saturday and return home and host Becker College at 12:00 p.m.
