Madi Zancan Collects Third GNAC Rookie of Week Award

WINTHROP, Mass. - With a game-high scoring effort in Saturday's victory over division leader Albertus Magnus College, first-year forward Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, announced Monday, Feb. 13, by the league office.

For the week, Zancan averaged a double-double with 12.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game as she shot 41.2 percent (7-for-17) from the field and 83.3 percent (10-for-12) from the free throw line. Last Wednesday, she helped the Pride win the rebounding battle against Lasell with a season-high 12 rebounds.

Saturday against Albertus Magnus, she led the Pride with 20 points and nine rebounds. She scored nine points in the second quarter to help Regis open a 20-point halftime lead, and then she collected seven points in the fourth quarter to hold off a Falcon rally.

For the season, Zancan is averaging 13.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game for the Pride. She is fourth in the GNAC in both blocks per game and field goal percentage at 51.2 percent. Zancan was previously named GNAC Rookie of the Week Dec. 5 and Jan. 23 and is now tied with Kayla Jackson of Elms for most weekly rookie awards this season with three apiece.

Regis College (11-11, 11-5 GNAC) closes the regular season with road games at Saint Joseph's College Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 5:30 p.m. and at Dean College Saturday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m. The Pride will then move on to the GNAC Women's Basketball Tournament the following week.
