Madi Zancan Named GNAC Rookie of Week for Second Time

WINTHROP, Mass. – After scoring over 20 points in each of Regis College's three road victories over the past week, first-year forward Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, announced Monday, Jan. 23, by the league office.

Zancan started the week with a season-high 27 points on 11-for-17 field goal shooting to go along with 10 rebounds, including seven offensive boards, and three blocked shots at Lasell last Tuesday. On Thursday at USJ, Zancan scored 11 of her 20 points in the fourth quarter to help the Pride move into second place in the GNAC South Division.

Saturday at Elms, she went 11-for-14 from the field, her best field goal shooting performance of the season with at least 10 attempts, to finish with 22 points, seven rebounds, four assists, four steals, and four blocked shots. For the week, Zancan averaged 23.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 3.0 blocks per game while shooting 66.7 percent (30-for-45) from the floor.

For the season, Zancan is now averaging 13.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game. She is now 21st in all of Division III in field goal percentage at 54.7 percent as she has made at least half of her field goal attempts in 13 games this year.

Zancan was previously named GNAC Rookie of the Week Dec. 5 after her effort in Regis' first meeting against Elms when she finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots. She has reached double figures in scoring eight times so far in 2022-23, including four games with 20 or more points.

Regis College (7-9, 7-3 GNAC) concludes its four-game road swing Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Norwich in Northfield, Vt., with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. The Pride will play their first home game in two weeks Saturday, Jan. 28, against Johnson and Wales University starting at 3 p.m.
