Regis Women’s Hoop Falls to Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – After a close first quarter, Regis College could not sustain its offensive attack, as Framingham State took control in the second period on its way to a 55-42 victory over the Pride Saturday afternoon in a non-conference women's collegiate basketball game at the FSU Athletic and Recreation Center.

Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.) led the Pride with a season-high 16 points, and Valerie Whalen (Stoughton, Mass.) played 33 minutes off the bench, notching her first career double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds, both career-high totals.

Consecutive three-pointers by Doherty and Shannon Kelley (Quincy, Mass.) allowed the Pride to open an 8-2 advantage, but Framingham State would put together its own 8-2 scoring run to tie the game at 10-10. After a layup by Whalen with 2:36 remaining in the period gave Regis a 14-12 lead, neither team was able to score the rest of the opening quarter.

The Rams scored seven unanswered points in the second quarter, capped by a three-pointer from Camille Desrochers, to pull ahead, 19-15. The home team then put together another 8-0 scoring run, including a three-pointer by Krysta Padellaro in the final minute of the half, to going into the locker room at halftime with a 27-16 advantage.

The teams traded points through the first part of the third quarter before Framingham State rattled off a 12-2 scoring run, punctuated by a three-pointer from Rai Edwards-Thomas, to close the third period with a 47-26 lead. The Pride held the Rams to just two points in the final five minutes of the contest while scoring nine points in that span.

Katty Haidul paced the Rams on the offensive end with a team-high 14 points to go along with seven rebounds and two steals, and Flannery O'Connor finished the game just shy of a double-double with 10 points, eight boards, and a block. Padellaro finished the game with nine points, five boards, two assists, and six steals, while Gwendolyn Carpenter tallied eight points with three rebounds and six assists.
