Stone & Hawkesworth Headline NECC Major Honors

Full NECC Release

ATTLEBORO, Mass.  The New England Collegiate Conference women’s basketball all-conference awards were handed out on Monday with junior Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.) named Player of the Year and senior Amanda Hawkesworth (Abington, Mass.) voted Defensive Player of the Year. Both also earned first-team all-conference honors as well.

Stone has been outstanding in her junior campaign, shooting 64.9 percent from the floor across the 18 NECC games. In that stance she has scored 18.7 points per game and collected 9.9 rebounds. The West Bridgewater, Mass. native is a large part of the Pride’s explosive offense this season, which leads the league with 76.4 points per game. Her performance in leading the Pride to its fifth consecutive NECC title landed her the title of NECC Tournament Most Valuable Player on Saturday.

Sharing the offensive and defensive load with Stone is senior teammate Amanda Hawkesworth. The reigning NECC Player of the Year made her presence known on the defensive end of the court as she averaged more then a charge per game throughout the season.

Also receiving an NECC honor is sophomore Maura Russell (Braintree, Mass.), who was named to the conference's All-Sportsmanship Team.

The NECC Champion Pride will take on top-seeded Amherst College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The date and time will be determined later this afternoon.
