Women’s Basketball Too Much For Elms

WESTON, Mass.Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.) had 27 first-half points and the Regis (Mass.) women's basketball team allowed a season-low point total in a 75-30 win over Elms College in New England Collegiate Conference action, Saturday at Higgins Court.

With the win the Pride (8-5, 7-0 NECC) remain atop the league standings. Elms falls to 6-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

Stone finished with a game-high 29 points on a scorching 12-15 shooting despite sitting out most of the fourth quarter. She made full use of her height advantage on the defensive end as well with a game-high seven blocks. Amanda Hawkesworth (Abington, Mass.) put up 12 points and Mikayla Murphy (Attleboro, Mass.) dished out a team-high 10 assists.

Chaniah Pantry (New Haven, Conn.) was one point shy of a double double for the Blazers, recording a game-high 11 dimes to go along with nine points and five rebounds.

The Pride opened the game on a 16-4 run then slowly increased its margin going forward. Stone was unstoppable in the first quarter, posting back-to-back buckets on two occasions to finish with 10 points by the end of the period. Later on, Stone's and-one basket lifted the lead to 25-8 with 5:31 remaining in the half and Regis began to pull away. The Pride scored the first eight points of the third quarter to put the game on ice.

Regis returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 18 with a home game against Lesley at 6:00 p.m. Elms hosts Southern Vermont the same day with a 7:00 p.m. tipoff time.
