Women's Basketball Falls to UNE For First Loss of Season

BIDDEFORD, Maine - The University of New England women's basketball team shot 62 percent from the floor in periods two and three to out-score Regis (Mass.) by 19, on the way to a 79-59 win in the championship game of the Ramada Roundball Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Harold Alfond Forum.

Tournament Most Valuable Player Alicia Brown paced the Nor'easters (3-0) with 15 points, six rebounds, and three blocks. Also named to the All-Tournament Team was Sadie Nelson, who dropped in 14 points and picked up five boards.

Jocelyn Chaput and Olivia Shaw reached double figures for UNE, as well, going for 12 and 11 points, respectively; additionally, Shaw had six caroms and three steals. Kristie McNall Kristie McNall supported with seven points, five assists, and three thefts.

The hosts nearly connected on exactly half (24-of-48) of their two-point attempts in the match, and nearly the same (7-of-16) from long distance, while Regis made just 35 percent (21-of-60) overall.

Leading the Pride (1-1) was All-Tournament selection Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.) with 15 points and six rebounds. Guard Mikayla Murphy (Attleboro, Mass.) tossed in 12 points as well for the Pride. Joining Stone on the All-Tournament team was Regis senior forward Amanda Hawkesworth (Abington, Mass.).

The Pride will be off until after Thanksgiving, as they return to action to open New England Collegiate Conference play on Nov. 29 on the road against Mitchell College. Tip-off from Mitchell is slated for 5:30 p.m.
