Women's Basketball Named NCAA Rebounding Margin Champion

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Regis women's basketball team was named the 2015-16 Division III statistical champion for rebound margin, announced by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). A national power on the boards, Regis led the nation with a plus-16 rebounding margin.

"Congratulations to our players on being the best rebounding team in the country this season," praised Angela Santa Fe who completed her third season as head coach. "Rebounding has certainly become a trademark of our program and this group, like other Regis teams before them, embraced the hard work, toughness and dedication required to excel not only in this area but in all facets of the game."

Regis was outrebounded by only four opponents during the season. Mt. St. Mary's (NY) was a distant second at +12.6 on the glass. Carnegie Mellon (+12.3), Wisconsin-Superior (+11.8) and Brooklyn (+11.6) rounded out the top five teams. Making the achievement even more impressive was the improvement of +7.2 rebounds per game from the 2014-15 season.

In addition to rebounding margin, Regis ranked fourth nationally in total rebounds (1,378) and rebounds per game (49.21), and eighth in total defensive rebounds (881). Individually Brittany Stone (9.6) and Amanda Hawkesworth (8.5) ranked sixth and ninth, respectively in the NECC in rebounds per game.

"One of our team values this year was toughness, and we utilized rebounding in order to measure that value," added Santa Fe. "We spoke about the importance of rebounding just as often as we practiced it. This group in particular bought into the concept and it quickly became a part of our DNA, the result not only leading the team to be the top rebounding team in the country but our most successful season in program history."
