REGIS' WINNING STREAK SNAPPED BY #22 BOWDOIN

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Regis College women's basketball team was defeated by No. 22 nationally ranked Bowdoin College 84-44 on Tuesday evening at Morrell Gymnasium. The loss snapped the Pride's seven game winning streak and dropped their record to 7-2 on the campaign while the Polar Bears improved to 9-2 on the year.

The Crimson and Gold committed 24 turnovers in the contest with Bowdoin cashing in on the Pride miscues as they scored 29 of their 84 points off Regis turnovers.

Bowdoin never trailed in the contest as they jumped out to an early 7-0 advantage in the opening frame as senior Shannon Brady (Scituate, Mass.) converted two easy buckets. Regis remained in striking distance as they closed the deficit to 13-8 after Shannon Hayes (Billerica, Mass.) hit a jumper from the elbow late in the first quarter.

After Hayes' make, the Polar Bears answered with a 10-2 run to end the quarter as sophomore guard Lauren Petit (Medfield, Mass.) scored four consecutive points. Bowdoin headed into the intermission up 36-20 on Regis with 20 of the Polar Bear's points coming of Pride turnovers. Shannon Brady scored 12 of her game-high 25 points in the third period as Bowdoin iced the game.

Amanda Hawkesworth (Abington, Mass.) carried the Pride offensive attack with 13 points and also snagged four rebounds. Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.) scored nine points while Mikayla Murphy (Attleboro, Mass.) tallied seven points and matched a season-high with seven caroms.

Regis returns to action and looks to right the ship on Saturday afternoon as they return to conference action at Newbury with tip-off slated for noon.
