REGIS FIGHTS OFF EAGLES FOR FIRST WIN IN 2015

NASHUA, N.H. – Freshman forward Brittany Stone (W. Bridgewater, Mass.) scored a career-high 19 points off the bench while adding seven rebounds as the Regis College Women's Basketball Team defeated New England Collegiate Conference foe Daniel Webster College 79-67 on Thursday night at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

The win halted a three-game skid for Regis (5-4, 3-0 NECC). Janaya Bradley (New Haven, Conn.) knocked down 17 points, Amanda Hawkesworth (Abington, Mass.) picked up 14 with four assists, and Emilee Marro (Bedford, N.H.) chipped in with 13 points, eight boards and a game-high five steals.

Eagles junior guard Ashley England (Old Town, Maine) tied her career high with 27 points with 20 of them coming in the first half of play. England finished 11 of 20 from the field with three three-pointers and added five caroms. Sophomore Kayla Free (Quincy, Mass.) tallied 12 points, five boards and three assists. Freshman Amanda Gendron (Mont Vernon, N.H.) chipped in with seven points and five rebounds.

Regis used a 48-34 advantage on the glass but were bolstered by 32 trips to the free throw line (23-32) while DWC converted on five of just six chances.

DWC led 10-7 early on and were in the lead at 16-15 at the 11:39 mark of the first, but Regis seized the advantage with a 7-2 run keyed by a Shannon Hayes 10-foot jumper before DWC closed the gap to one on an England jumper just before the break for a 39-38 game at the half.

After the teams traded baskets to start the second, Regis followed with a stead 14-3 run with six points from Stone consuming exactly five minutes to take control.

After the lead swelled to as high as 16 (65-49) after a Marro layup with 9:16 left, DWC put together a quick 8-0 run including two jumpers from Free and later an England three closed the gap to seven (69-62) with 3:38 on the clock.

A Gendron trey kept the deficit the same at 72-65 with 2:38 to go but a Hawkesworth layup with 1:27 left pushed the lead back to double digits and the hosts pulled no closer.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday as they visit Bay Path in a NECC matchup beginning at 1:00 p.m. Regis hosts NECC foe Newbury on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
