REGIS KNOCKS OFF SOUTHERN VERMONT, 73-41

BENNINGTON, Vt. – Junior captain and guard Emilee Marro (Bedford, N.H.) led all players with 13 points while adding six rebounds, shooting 5-of-8 from the floor, as the Regis College women's basketball team defeated Southern Vermont College, 73-41 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play on Saturday afternoon at the Mountaineer Athletic Center.

The Pride out-rebounded SVC, 55-35 while hitting a 36.8 percent clip from beyond the arch. They also made the most of turnovers, collecting 24 points off Mountaineer giveaways.

Southern Vermont sophomore guard Amber Flagg (Windsor, Conn.) and classmate forward Sarah McDonald (Cohoes, N.Y.) tied the team-high of 12 points with Flagg dishing out four assists and McDonald grabbing a team-best seven boards.

Early misses from both sides and Mountaineer foul trouble headlined the early going as a layup by Southern Vermont sophomore forward Kala MacKenzie (Fair Haven, Vt.) gave the hosts a 4-3 lead 4:20 into the first half. After SVC sophomore guard Mariah Anthony (Northfield, Mass.) drained a jumper to regain the lead (6-5), Regis went on an 11-0 run over the next 1:57 with the help of three baskets from downtown to give the Pride a 16-6 advantage.

The Mountaineers would respond with seven unanswered to close the gap, but Regis would start to again make shots to keep the lead. With the score at 24-19 with 5:53 to go in the first, RC outscored SVC 13-0 over the next 3:53 to pull ahead 37-19 and go into the break up 38-21.

Regis continued to shoot from outside in the second half as the Mountaineers couldn't trim the Pride's lead to any less than 14. With Southern Vermont trying to make up points late in the game from 3-point distance, RC transitioned well for fast-break points with freshman Kayla Corshia (Medway, Mass.) scoring seven straight at one point as the Pride went on to the 73-41 victory.

On the Regis side, Marro was followed in scoring by sophomore guard Taylor Bunkley (Carmel, N.Y.) and freshman guard Sarah Paskevich (Colchester, Vt.) who each had 10 points. Sophomore forward Michaela Maguire (Revere, Mass.) added seven points and a team-high nine rebounds off the bench for the Pride.

The Mountaineers (1-7, 0-3 NECC) look ahead to Friday, Dec. 13 when they host SUNY at Morrisville for a 7 p.m. tip while Regis (4-2, 3-0 NECC) next faces off at home against Western Connecticut State University Sunday, Dec. 15 at 1 p.m.
