REGIS ENDS SEASON WITH LOSS TO PLYMOUTH STATE

Weston, Mass.—Regis College (20-10) lost its Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) semifinals game to Little East opponent Plymouth State University 72-65 Saturday afternoon. The ECAC semifinals were hosted by No. 1 Keene State College.

Regis advanced to the semifinals after beating Worcester State College on March 3 at Regis. Eight different Regis players scored in the game. Sophomore guard Caitlin Luquet (Walnut Creek, Calif.) led the way with a team-high 12 points.

Senior Jessica Page (Quincy, Mass.), junior Sarah McNult (Hampstead, N.H.), and sophomore Meagan Tobin (Quincy, Mass.) added nine points each, while Stephanie Crawford (Rockland, Mass.) and Brittany White (Dorchester, Mass.) added eight points.

Four different Plymouth State players scored in double figures. Laura Kent led the way posting a game-high 22 points.

Regis led most of the first half, but allowed Plymouth State enough second chance opportunities to take the lead. Regis would enter halftime down by one (35-34).

The Pride opened the game with Tobin and McNult scoring to give Regis a five-point lead. Regis continued its dominance pushing the lead to 10-points (19-9) with 13:37 remaining.

Plymouth State would battle back, cutting the Regis lead to just two (23-21). As a team, Regis shot just 36 percent from the floor, a lowly 30 percent from behind the arc, and just 60 percent from the free-throw line.

In most categories the two teams were not drastically different. However, Plymouth State owned Regis in rebounds. Plymouth State had 54 total rebounds to the Pride’s 34.

Saturday was Regis’ first ECAC appearance since the mid-1990s, and its longest season since that same time.

Head coach Julie Plant has led the Pride to three consecutive The Commonwealth Coast Conference appearances, and her first ECAC appearance since being at Regis.
