KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Regis College concluded its participation in The Spring Games with losses to Illinois College and Calvin University Friday in non-conference collegiate softball games at the Fortune Road Field Complex.

ILLINOIS COLLEGE 6, REGIS 1

Illinois College (4-8) scored single runs in the first and second innings before Regis responded in the top of the third inning as Bianca Burke (Cambridge, Mass.) hit a one-out triple to center field and scored on a fielding error by the Lady Blues.

The Lady Blues broke the game open in the bottom of the third inning, loading the bases on singles by Kayla Serpa and Calynn Gicante along with Cheyenne Anderson being hit by a pitch. After Serpa stole home for a run, Kendall Cole drew a walk to once again load the bases, all three runners advanced one base on a wild pitch with Anderson coming home, and Lauren Brown laced a triple to center field to drive in Gicante and Cole.

After the triple, the teams combined for just four hits over the final four innings as Mel Rees (Middleborough, Mass.) came on in relief for the Pride and allowed just two hits and one walk in four inning while striking out five batters. Illinois College pitcher Hannah Crouch earned a complete game, giving up just five hits and one unearned run while collecting nine strikeouts.

Serpa and Brown each went 2-for-3 to lead the offense for the Lady Blues, while Burke went 2-for-3 at the top of the batting order for the Pride.

CALVIN 10, REGIS 0

After a scoreless first inning, Calvin broke through in the second inning with three runs as the Knights loaded the bases with one out before an RBI grounder hit by Sage Mougin and two more runs scoring on a ground ball down the third base line hit by Carly Dole. With two outs in the third inning, Aubrey Herder singled, advanced to third on a Regis error, and scored on a single up the middle by Mougin.

Calvin (7-1) extended its lead in the fourth inning on a two-run double by Emma Tornes and then scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Regis threatened to break through in the bottom of the fifth as Avery Patles (Derry, N.H.) led off with a single and Abby Erickson (Worcester, Mass.) followed with a walk. Both runners advanced into scoring position on a groundout, but Calvin starter Zoe Hazelhoff earned a strikeout and a groundout to preserve the shutout and end the game.

Grace Glass led the Knight offense by going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Herder and Ella Steele each finished with two hits and two runs scored. Hazelhoff held the Pride to just two hits and two walks while striking out five batters in five innings.
