Regis Softball Drops Doubleheader Against SJC

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College was defeated in both games of Sunday's non-conference doubleheader against Saint Joseph's College of Maine at Regis Softball Field.

GAME ONE: Saint Joseph's 5, Regis 1

After both teams went scoreless for six innings, Saint Joseph's put the first run on the board in the top of the seventh when Charlotte Cloutier doubled to center field and was driven in on an RBI single by pinch-hitter Abby Carpenter to put the visitors on top by one.

The Pride battled back in the bottom of the seventh, starting with Diana Petrarca (Coventry, R.I.) reaching first on an error by the shortstop and advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Alyssa Ward (Webster, Mass.). With two outs, Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.) singled to right field to score the runner from second and send the game into extra innings.

With runners on second and third in the top of the eighth, Sadie Tirrell singled to right-center field to drive in a pair of runs and give the visitors a 3-1 lead over the Pride. An RBI double by Olivia Howe and a runner scoring from third base on a wild pitch gave the Monks a 5-1 lead before Regis managed to get out of the inning.

Colby Butterfield (Gilford, N.H.) pitched all eight innings for the Pride, allowing only four hits and one earned run through seven innings while striking out three batters. Meredith Pence pitched a complete game for the Monks, striking out nine batters while allowing only four hits and one earned run.

GAME TWO: Saint Joseph's 1, Regis 0

Bianca Burke (Cambridge, Mass.) and Andria Braga (Rehoboth, Mass.) both went 2-for-3 in the game including a double by Burke.

Abbie Green-Sermak walked to lead off the fifth inning and was driven in by an RBI double to left-center field by Cloutier to score the game's only run.

Petrarca pitched a complete game for Regis, allowing seven hits and only one earned run while recording a strikeout. Emily Eagleston pitched all seven innings for the Monks, striking out five while shutting out the Pride.

Regis College (4-10, 0-2 GNAC) hosts a doubleheader against Eastern Nazarene on Tuesday, April 4, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Saint Joseph's College of Maine hosts Husson on the same day, first pitch at 5:00 p.m.
