Regis Softball Falls Short in GNAC Doubleheader

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Regis College was overwhelmed by Albertus Magnus, losing both games of Sunday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference softball doubleheader at Shea Softball Complex.

GAME ONE: ALBERTUS MAGNUS 8, REGIS 0

Regis kept the game close through three innings, only allowing one Albertus Magnus run in the bottom of the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Ava Gladwin which allowed Jess Stettinger, who reached first on an error, to score, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

After scoring another two runs in the fourth inning, the Falcons would eventually force a run rule in the fifth. Stettinger homered in the inning, driving in two runs and contributing to Albertus Magnus scoring five runs and taking an 8-0 lead over the Pride.

Regis was led offensively by Lexi Nichols (Granby, Conn.) who had two hits including one double while Regis pitcher Alyssa Ward (Webster, Mass.) allowed only two earned runs in four innings in the loss.

GAME TWO: ALBERTUS MAGNUS 7, REGIS 1

Regis scored first in game two when Chloe Beland (Southborough, Mass.) singled to left field, allowing Ciara Collins (Lynn, Mass.) to score from third base.

The Pride lead wouldn't last long as the Falcons posted six runs on five hits in the bottom of the second to put the game out of reach for Regis. Albertus Magnus would score one more run in the bottom of the third, giving the home team a six-run advantage.

Despite the loss, the Regis bats were much more active in game two as the Pride had nine hits, led by Reilly Jewett (Norton, Mass.) who hit both a double and a triple during the contest. Regis pitcher Kate McGrath (Boston, Mass.) started the game and struck out three Falcon batters through four innings.

Regis College (5-14, 2-4 GNAC) is scheduled to face Lesley on the road in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, Apr. 12, with games starting at 4:00 and 6:00 p.m.
