Pride Softball Winning Streak Snapped by Monks

STANDISH, Maine – Regis College saw its four-game winning streak snapped Sunday, as Saint Joseph's College won both games of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference softball doubleheader at Richard W. Bailey Field.

GAME ONE: SAINT JOSEPH'S 8, REGIS 3

Regis struck first in the top of the second inning as Ciara Collins (Lynn, Mass.) hit a one-out single, advanced to third on a Monk error, and scored on an RBI groundout by Bri Page (New Boston, N.H.). However, Saint Joseph's College took control of the game with five runs in the bottom of the second inning.

In the top of the third inning, Andria Braga (Rehoboth, Mass.) led off with a double to left-center field, followed by a single to left field by Erin Murphy (Bedford, N.H.). Kayla Morrill (Lynn, Mass.) drove in Braga from third on a groundout, followed by a single up the middle by Madison Smith (Malden, Mass.) that sent Murphy to third base. Sarah Fawcett (Londonderry, N.H.) would drive in Murphy with a groundout, bringing the Pride within two at 5-3.

The Monks would add three insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and the Pride could not take advantage of the leadoff hitter reaching base in both the sixth and seventh innings. Emily Eagleston struck out the final two batters in the seventh inning to finish her complete game victory.

GAME TWO: SAINT JOSEPH'S 12, REGIS 0

Saint Joseph's (8-8, 4-0 GNAC) scored one run in the bottom of the first inning and then broke the game open with six runs in the second inning, starting with four straight singles and including a two-run double by Olivia Howe. Rylee Page hit a two-run double in the third inning, and the Monks collected three more runs in the fourth inning.

The Pride were held to three hits by Monk pitcher Meredith Pence, who at one point retired 13 batters in a row.

Regis College (5-12, 2-2 GNAC) is scheduled for a non-conference doubleheader at Emmanuel Wednesday, April 6, starting at 5 p.m. before hosting Lasell in a conference twinbill Saturday, April 9, beginning at 1 p.m.
