PRIDE HAVE TOUGH DAY WITH AMCATS

PAXTON, Mass. – Junior Sarah Boyda (Oxford, Mass.) set the Anna Maria College single season record for steals, which had stood for 28 years, as the AMCATS swept the Pride of Regis College in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference softball doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. The AMCATS took game one 2-1, before earning an 8-6 victory in the night to improve their record to 14-16 (10-6 TCCC), while the Pride fall to 7-24 (4-10 TCCC).

Junior Hope Benjamin (Rochester, Mass.) led the offensive attack for the Pride with three hits, a home run, three runs scored, and two runs batted in. Sophomore Kendra Abram (Acushnet, Mass.) added three hits of her own, while sophomore Caitlin Luquet (Walnut Creek, Calif.) chipped in with two hits, a homer, two runs scored, and two runs batted in game two.??? ???The first game of the doubleheader was a classic pitcher’s duel between AMC’s Holly Renna and Regis’ Kendra Abram.

The Pride managed to scratch across an unearned run in the fifth to cut the AMC lead to 2-1. Benjamin, who had doubled earlier in the inning, got Regis on the board when she came around to score on a costly throwing error by the AMCATS.??? ???However, that was all the Pride could manage off of Renna, who allowed just two hits while nailing down the 2-1 victory for the AMCATS in game one.

Refusing to go away, the Pride responded with three runs in the top of the fifth, receiving a two-run blast from Luquet and a solo shot by Benjamin to claw back to within two at 8-6.

The Pride will take the field again on Friday when they host Roger Williams at 4:00 pm, while the AMCATS return to action on Saturday, traveling to face the University of New England in a TCCC doubleheader starting at noon.
