Regis Honored in All-GNAC Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) formally recognized its 2023 Cross Country All-Conference teams and major award winners on Wednesday morning. The men's and women's cross country teams at Regis were recognized.

Junior Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.) earned Second Team All-GNAC honors after extending his three-year streak of crossing the finish line first amongst Regis competitors while finishing 10th over the eight-kilometer course at the 2023 GNAC Cross Country Championships.  

Senior Zach Sigman (Buffalo, N.Y.) also received Second Team All-GNAC recognition as he finished 12th with a time of 30:45.6 at the championship meet. Sigman earned two personal bests this season, completing a five-kilometer race with a time of 17:49.5 at the Charger XC Invitational. This was a 55-second improvement from his previous personal best at the 2021 Wellesley Invitational.

Libby Parker (Bow, N.H.) was honored with First Team All-GNAC recognition after finishing seventh overall with a six-kilometer time of 27:58.1. Jonnie Charest (Methuen, Mass.) picked up Second Team All-GNAC accolades as she finished in 13th place at 28:39.4. Charest set a new personal best record at the GNAC Championships, finishing one minute faster than her previous record.

Katie Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) and Kederson Pierre (Everett, Mass) received the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Award. Kelley posted a personal best at the meet, finishing in 24th place, with a six-kilometer time of 30:27.9, while Pierre also earned a personal best time, finishing the eight-kilometer race in 36:57.7.

In addition to the individual recognitions, the Pride were awarded the GNAC Institutional Sportsmanship Award for both the men's and women's teams.  

Head Coach Ben Colello recognized the Pride's hard work, stating, "I am very proud of Katie, Kederson, and both the women's and men's teams as a whole for their excellent display of sportsmanship throughout the entire season. The team consistently put their very best effort forward each and every practice and competition and showed tremendous respect and appreciation towards competitors and officials. This is a well-deserved award for both the teams and individuals!"
