Benjamin Happenny Named GNAC Runner of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. - After leading the Regis men's cross country team at the Codfish Bowl Meet Saturday at Franklin Park in Boston, junior Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, announced Monday, Sept. 25, by the league office.

Among a field that included both collegiate and club runners, Happenny finished 84th overall with an eight-kilometer time of 28:52.1. Within the group of NCAA Division III competitors that included runners from Tufts, Endicott, Gordon, Maine Maritime, Hartford, UMass Boston, Lesley, and GNAC rival Emmanuel, Happenny ended up in 30th place.

Since arriving on campus in the fall of 2021, Happenny has been the top Regis finisher in all 17 cross country events he has competed in. A two-time First Team All-GNAC honoree in cross country, this is Happenny's first GNAC weekly award in the fall and second overall, as he received GNAC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors Jan. 16, 2023.

Regis College heads to Keene, N.H., next Saturday, Sept. 30, for the Keene State Invitational at the Owl Athletic Complex, with the women's five-kilometer race starting at 11 a.m. followed by the men's eight-kilometer event at 12 p.m.
