Know Your Pride: Q&A With Shane Romanchick

On the eve of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships comes the latest installment of “Know Your Pride,” where Regis Athletics sits down with Regis cross country and track and field student-athlete Shane Romanchick for a good old fashioned Q & A session. Romanchick is from Trumbull, Connecticut and is majoring in communications at Regis.

Why did you choose to come to Regis?
Definitely because I wanted that close-knit feel. I thought Regis was the place where I could do that but still perform at a level that I was when I was in high school.

So far, what has been your most memorable Regis experience on or off the trails/track?
My most memorable experience was definitely last year at the NECC Championships, where we got second and the women got first place. For us, no one thought we would get second place, and for the women, just watching them win it was great.

When Coach Bonsey gives you the day off, what are you doing instead?
Definitely just hanging out with friends, just using my free time to its fullest advantage.

What do you enjoy most about running cross country and track both for Regis and in general?
I love the smaller family aspect in cross country and every year I feel like we make a really strong bond. By the end of the season, we act like we’ve known each other for years. With track, I thrive more on the hills and out in the open, but on the track, because I do the 10k, it’s a lot more mentally straining when you’re doing a bunch of laps and trying to stay focused. But I also love that because it helps me in life where I feel like “I can do this, that 10-page essay is going to be nothing.”

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given and by whom?
In cross country, it’s mind over body and it’s heart over talent. That’s what my high school coach told me.

What is the last picture you took on your phone?
We always take goofy photos at cross country meets, it was probably one of those.

If you could sit down to dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Definitely Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker in Star Wars)

If you could have a special power, what would it be?
Definitely super speed.

If you could live in a TV show or movie, what would it be?
Riverdale.

If you had a million dollars what would you do with it?
Probably buy a lot of comic books.

All abilities aside, if you could play a sport at Regis other than cross country or track, which would you choose?
Basketball.

What's your go-to karaoke song?
Stayin Alive' by the Bee Gees.

If you could be any animal what would you be?
A wolf.
