Women Eighth, Men Tied for Fifth in GNAC Preseason XC Poll

WINTHROP, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) men's cross country team have tied for fifth and the women finished eighth in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Preseason Cross Country Poll released by the conference on Wednesday morning. 

The men, who finished in second in the New England Collegiate Conference a year ago, finished with 51 points and was tied with Suffolk University. Norwich, the two-time defending GNAC Champions, finished atop the poll garnering nine out of 10 first place votes. Emmanuel College finished in second, while Johnson & Wales, the recipient of the final first place vote, finished third.

The Pride women's team finished with 76 points in the poll to land in eighth place despite winning the NECC last season. Norwich University was also selected to win on the women's side, taking nine of 12 first place votes. Simmons finished in second, earning two first place votes, while Emmanuel rounded out the top three with one first place vote. 

Both the men's and women's teams will be in action on Friday to open their seasons against Wellesley College and Brandeis College at 6:00 p.m. The GNAC Championships will be hosted by Johnson & Wales in Bristol, R.I. on Saturday, Oct. 28.
