Men's Cross Country Places Second At NECC Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Regis (Mass.) men's cross country team finished second with a strong showing Saturday at the New England Collegiate Conference championships on a cool but sunny Saturday morning at Stanley Park.

The Southern Vermont Mountaineers raced to their third straight title.

The Pride finish 6-7-8 led by Shane Romanchick (Trumbull, Conn.) and followed by Jovan Sematimba (Burlington, Mass.) and Kyle Gillen-Hughes (Reading, Mass.). While well behind the Mountaineers, the Pride were a clear second ahead of Wheelock and Mitchell by 48 points.

SVC showcased the top three finishers with Marc Brandemeyer (Bennington, Vt.) winning the race and runner of the year honors. Stephen McCall (Brockton, Mass.) placed second and Davante Smith (Ellenville, N.Y.) was named rookie of the year finishing third and as the top newcomer.

SVC's Kathleen Newton was named the coach of the year as voted by her peers.

Mitchell College's David Still (New London, Conn.) and SVC's Corey Barcomb (Burlington, Vt.) rounded out the top 5.

Romanchick and Sematimba were named to the First Team All-NECC by placing in the top-seven. Gillen-Hughes, Sahagian and Norton all earned spots on the All-Conference Second Team. Below is a list of all of the All-Conference selection.
