History Made For Cross Country At UMass-Dartmouth Invite

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Molly Curtin (19:17), Siobhan McLaughlin (19:42) and Maddie Boucias (19:50) made history on Saturday at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational as all three posted sub-20 minute times, a first in Regis women's cross country history for a 5k race.

Curtin (Brockton, Mass.) had an impressive showing, placing 34th in the 275-person field. McLaughlin (Derry, N.H.) came in 58th with Boucias (Buckland, Mass.) the 69th runner to cross the finish line. Brandeis won the overall team competition with Regis placing 21st in the 37-team field.

On the men's side, freshman Jovan Sematimba (Burlington, Mass.) led the Pride running 28:18 in his 8k debut. Sophomore Shane Romanchick (Trumbull, Conn.) was close behind (28:34) with captain Matt Norton (Weymouth, Mass.) the third finisher for the Pride, running with a time of 29:13. Freshman Nick Sahagian (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) ran 29:35 in his 8k debut.

American International won the men's team competition and had the top individual finisher as well in Mitchell Byrne (24:50.51). The Pride placed 27th overall.

Both teams return to action next Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Codfish Bowl in Boston. Start time is set for 11:00 a.m.
