Pride Men’s Volleyball Loses at Rivier

NASHUA, N.H. – Regis College lost to Rivier University, 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-21), Thursday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's collegiate volleyball match at Muldoon Gymnasium.

Rivier (11-10, 6-1 GNAC) scored the first two points of the match on a kill by Matthew McCloskey and a service ace from Racine Camara, but Regis eventually tied the set at 3-3 before the Raiders scored six straight points, led by Isaac Borges with a kill and a service ace. Later in the set, after a kill by John Nangle (Lowell, Mass.), Rivier closed it out with four unanswered points, capped by consecutive service aces from Neil Rea.

The Raiders scored five of the first six points of the second set and then put together a 14-3 scoring run to extend their advantage to 19-6. Regis battled back thanks to a kill by Eddie Djatcha (Lowell, Mass.) as well as a block by Djatcha and Andrew Matzouranis (North Andover, Mass.), but Rivier would eventually clinch the second set on a kill by Camara.

After the teams split the first 18 points of the third set, Regis pulled ahead 10-9 thanks to a block by Nangle and Matzouranis. The next six points were split evenly, and then Rivier put together an 8-1 scoring run, led by Borges with two kills and a block assist, to take control of the set. The Raiders would close out the set and the match on a Pride service error.

Regis (9-14, 4-5 GNAC) heads into Boston to face Emerson College Saturday, March 23, starting at 12 p.m. The Pride will then host Elms College on Senior Night next Tuesday, March 26, beginning at 7 p.m.
