Cappuccio, DiPaola Collect GNAC Weekly Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. - For the second consecutive week, Regis College earned two weekly awards from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), as Marcello Cappuccio (Scotch Plains, N.J.) received GNAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second straight time and Alessandro DiPaola (Newington, Conn.) was selected the GNAC Setter of the Week, announced Monday, Feb. 13, by the league office.

Cappuccio paced the Regis backline as the Pride swept both Bard College and Russell Sage College during a tri-match Saturday. Against Bard, he finished with nine digs and did not make a reception error in nine receptions.

In the Pride's second match of the day against the host Gators, Cappuccio finished with five digs and two assists, plus he made only one reception error in eight opportunities. For the season, Cappuccio is now second in the GNAC in both total digs with 85 and digs per set with 2.83.

DiPaola played the second and third sets against Bard and finished with a career-high 22 assists, plus he earned two kills, one service ace, one dig, and one block assist. He then entered the Sage match in the third set and collected eight assists, two service aces, and one dig to help the Pride complete the sweep over the Gators.

Regis College (4-5) returns to conference play with a home match against Rivier University Wednesday, Feb. 15, starting at 7:30 p.m. It is Student Leader Appreciation Night, as Orientation Leaders, Pride Guides, Resident Advisors, and Team Captains will be recognized between sets two and three.
