WINTHROP, Mass. – After posting career-high block and dig totals Friday as well as helping Regis College to two conference victories Saturday, senior Kostea Andreenko (Marstons Mills, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, as the league office announced the weekly award recipients Monday evening, Mar. 14.

Last Wednesday against Nichols, Andreenko ended up with five total blocks along with six kills and two digs. Friday against SUNY Potsdam, he finished with a career-high nine total blocks, seven of them coming in the fourth set to help the Pride rally from deficits of 11-2 and 21-16 to win the set and force the match to a deciding fifth set. He also earned a career-high seven digs and hit .556 (11-1-18) in the match.

After going 3-for-3 on attacks along with a service ace and two digs in the first set against Dean, Andreenko hit .692 (11-2-13) with two block assists against Colby-Sawyer as the Pride defeated both the Bulldogs and Chargers. Andreenko is now second in the GNAC in blocks per set at 0.97.

Andreenko was named GNAC Defensive Player of the Week Jan. 31 after establishing his then-career high of eight total blocks against Eastern Nazarene Jan. 28. It is the fourth time this season a Regis player has been selected GNAC Defensive Player of the Week, with Marcello Cappuccio (Feb. 21) and Josh Nolen (Feb. 28) joining Andreenko as previous honorees.

Regis College (8-10, 3-4 GNAC) aims to reach the .500 mark in conference play when its hosts Dean College Tuesday, Mar. 15, starting at 7 p.m. at Higgins Court.
