Marcello Cappuccio Named GNAC MVB Defensive Player of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – As the team's libero, Marcello Cappuccio (Scotch Plains, N.J.) paced the Pride defense during the team's 2-1 week, averaging 3.55 digs per set, earning him the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, announced on Monday, Feb. 21, by the league office.

After collecting nine digs Thursday night at Lasell, Cappuccio notched a career-high 15 digs in Regis' 3-1 victory over Emerson Saturday in the Pride's first GNAC win of the season. Later Saturday, he tied that career-high with 15 digs against King's College, helping the Pride hold the Monarchs, which entered the match with an 11-2 record, to a negative hitting percentage.

In addition, he did not make a reception error while finishing with a team-high 76 serve receptions during the week. Cappuccio is second in the GNAC in digs per set with 2.70, leading the Pride with 100 digs on the season.

This is the Pride men's volleyball team's third time receiving a weekly award this season, as Joseph Perez (Miami, Fla.) was named Rookie of the Week Feb. 7, and Kostea Andreenko (Marstons Mills, Mass.) was named Defensive Player of the Week Jan. 31.

Regis College (5-7, 1-4 GNAC) has two road games this week before returning home on Wednesday, Mar. 9, for a non-conference match against Nichols, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
