Joseph Perez Named GNAC MVB Rookie of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – After leading Regis College offensively during the Pride's victories over Dean College and Northern Vermont-Johnson Saturday, sophomore Joseph Perez (Miami, Fla.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Week, announced Monday, Feb. 7, by the league office.

Perez started the week with a team-high six kills along with three digs and a block assist last Wednesday at Rivier. In Saturday's first match of the day for the Pride, Perez collected 10 kills, hitting .615 for the match, as well as a season-high eight digs in Regis's 3-0 victory over Dean.

In the team's second match of the day Saturday against NVU-Johnson, Perez again led the Pride offensively with seven digs, hitting .308 during the contest. His effort helped Regis sweep the Badgers to improve to .500 for the season at 3-3.

So far in his first collegiate season of competition, Perez leads the team with 2.40 kills per set and is also second on the squad in total kills with 36 and total digs with 23 (1.53 digs per set). He is also third on the team with seven service aces as the Pride are averaging 2.26 aces per set as a team.

This is the second straight week the Pride men's volleyball team has received a weekly award, as Kostea Andreenko was named Defensive Player of the Week Jan. 31.

Regis College (3-3, 0-2 GNAC) starts a stretch of three road matches in five days with a conference contest at Elms College Tuesday, Feb. 8, beginning at 7 p.m.
