Kostea Andreenko Named GNAC MVB Defensive Player of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – For the second time in his collegiate career, Kostea Andreenko (Marstons Mills, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, announced Monday, Jan. 31, by the league office.

Andreenko led the Pride at the net during the team's victory over Eastern Nazarene Friday night. After collecting a team-high six kills along with a block assist against Wentworth last Wednesday, Andreenko earned a career-high eight total blocks to go along with six kills, one service ace, and two digs as the Pride defeated the Lions in four sets. Andreenko had three blocks in both the first and fourth sets as Regis took the early lead and then clinched the match, as the senior averaged 1.29 blocks per set during the 1-1 week.

This is the fourth GNAC weekly award for Andreenko. He received GNAC Defensive Player of the Week honors Feb. 25, 2019, after collecting nine total blocks in road matches against Rivier and Emerson. Andreenko was also named GNAC Rookie of the Week twice during the 2019 season, on both March 4 and March 18.

Regis College (1-2, 0-1 GNAC) returns to conference play Wednesday night, Feb. 2, in Nashua, N.H., against Rivier University starting at 7 p.m. The Pride will then host a non-conference tri-match Saturday, Feb. 5, facing Dean College at 11 a.m. and Northern Vermont-Johnson at 3 p.m. at Higgins Court.
