Men's Volleyball Falls To Endicott In NECC Showdown

WESTON, Mass. – Marcos Aguirre (Norwalk, Calif.) recorded 11 kills, Christopher Fitta (Warwick, R.I.) added a match-high 12 digs but it wasn't enough as the Regis (Mass.) men's volleyball team lost in four sets to Endicott, Thursday at Higgins Court in a showdown between the New England Collegiate Conference's top teams. Set scores were 25-16, 25-16, 25-27, 25-18.

The loss was the first in NECC play for the Pride who fall to 5-1 in conference and 10-13 overall. Endicott now holds the top spot in the conference at 7-0 and 14-9 overall. Bryn Lipton (Rockford, Ill.) did the damage at the net for Gulls, posting a double double with a match-high 17 kills to go along with 11 digs. Troy Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) added 15 kills and eight digs.

Endicott looked headed for a sweep after two dominant first-set wins and holding a comfortable lead in set three. Regis would have other ideas and come roaring back to win the set in extra points. Regis trailed by six after a trio of Gull points put them up 19-13. The Pride would rally though and, after kills from Brett Krahl (Santa Calarita, Calif.) and Jayson Vega (Ponce, Puerto Rico) coupled with a lack of Endicott rhythm on the offensive side of the net, Regis had cut the deficit to 23-22. Endicott later had match point at 25-24, but Aguirre's kill extended the set which ended in a Pride win on Sean Bisnett's (Oxnard, Calif.) solo stuff.

The Pride found itself in a similar hole in set four but this time would be unable to climb out. Regis trailed by seven but chipped away and shaved the lead to 21-17. The Gulls would seize control however, allowing just one more Regis point in cruising to the win.

The Pride next take the court when they visit Elms Saturday, Mar. 25 at 1:00 p.m. Endicott is next in action Saturday as well, playing Newbury and Eastern Nazarene in a tri-match beginning at 11:00 a.m.
