WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) men's volleyball team hung tight with the sixth-ranked team in the nation through two sets on Tuesday night at Higgins Court, but the depth of Wentworth proved too much for the Pride, as they were swept by the visiting Leopards (28-26, 27-25, 25-17).

With the loss, the Pride's three game winning streak comes to a close, and the team drops to 3-5 on the season. Wentworth improves to 7-2 with their second consecutive win. 

The Pride recorded the first three points of the night to jump out to the early lead in the first set. The Leopards, however, rebounded quickly, forcing the Pride to play catch-up volleyball for the rest of the set. Down 24-21 with Wentworth primed to take set one, the Pride was the beneficiary of a pair of Leopard attack errors, which paired with a kill from junior Wade Robidoux (Granby, Mass.) to tie the set at 24. The Pride fended off a pair more set-points before they finally couldn't hold off the Leopards any longer. An attack by sophomore Drew Beimel (Redondo Beach, Calif.) sailed long to give the visitors the opening set. 

The second set looked a lot like opener, as the Pride again battled back from down three points midway through the set to extend the set. A sly fake set-turned-kill from setter Joe Hanrahan (Coventry, R.I.) put the Pride at set point up 25-24 late in the game, but the Leopards answered with three consecutive points to take a commanding 2-0 lead. The set was clinched on a kill by Wentworth senior Mike Rogachefsky (Rochester, N.Y.).

The Pride could not keep up with the nation's sixth-ranked team in what proved to be the final set, as the Leopards got off to a flying 7-0 start. The Pride hit a lowly -.185 percent in the set as the Leopards cruised to the sweep, winning the set 25-17.

Wentworth senior outside hitter Jake Reed (Arvada, Colo.) led all players on the night with 11 kills, followed right behind by teammate Jon Roat (Macedon, N.Y.), who had 10. Regis was led by junior Brett Krahl (Santa Clarita, Calif.), who finished the night with nine kills.

The Pride will have a lengthy break between games, returning to the floor next Monday night to host Lesley University in a match rescheduled from last week. First serve from Higgins Court is slated for 7:00 p.m. The Leopards will open Great Northeast Athletic Conference play when they hit the court next, taking on the 13th-ranked Raiders of Rivier University on Thursday night at home at 7:00 p.m.
