NEWTON, Mass. – Despite a game-high 16 kills from senior James Ames (W. Hartford, Conn.), Mount Ida College suffered a 3-1 defeat to visiting Regis College in non-conference men's volleyball action on Thursday evening at Mount Ida Athletic Center.

After falling 25-16 in the first set, Mount Ida fell behind 2-0 after a tight 26-24 second set before getting back in the match by winning 26-24 themselves. The Pride emerged with the four-set win with a 25-17 victory in set four.

Junior Sean Bisnett (Oxnard, Calif.) led the Pride with 15 kills, a number matched by Mount Ida's Peter Griffenkranz (Deer Park, N.Y.), who turned in another double-double with 10 digs.

The visitors took a quick lead in the first set and then used a 9-4 run to turn that into a 7 point advantage at 17-10. Though Mount Ida pulled back to within three points, the Pride ripped off the next six points, which included a pair of service aces by junior Brandon Tordoff (Coventry, R.I.), who ended the night with four kills and was in on a team-high five blocks.

The next two sets both came down to the wire, with set two featuring five ties down the stretch, but Mount Ida couldn't get their noses in front, as Regis notched the tie-breaking point each time and then finally won the set with a kill by Jeff Ramos (Pawtucket, R.I.).

The Mustangs staved off elimination in set three, using a kill by Ames and an attacking error by Ramos to break a 24-24 tie and earn the two-point victory.

Regis put the match away with a 9-0 run in the middle of the fourth match, all served by Christopher Fitta (Warwick, R.I.).

Mount Ida got eight kills from freshman TJ Nicholas (Shelton, Conn.) and a game-high 39 assists from Jimmy Wessel (DeKalb, Ill.).

The Pride offense ran through Zach Sindoni (Haverhill, Mass.), who had 24 assists as well as eight digs.

As a group, Regis had ten team blocks, including four by Marcos Aguirre (Norwalk, Calif.) and three by Brett Krahl (Santa Clarita, Calif.), who added six kills in the win.

The Mustangs will play their final matches before spring break on Saturday afternoon when they return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action with a tri-match in Nashua, N.H. against Wentworth and Rivier.

The Pride return to New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action on Monday, March 7th when they travel to Endicott for a 7:00 pm match.
