BALANCED ATTACK LEADS REGIS OVER LYNX

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's volleyball team picked up its sixth-straight win with a 3-1 victory over Lesley University on Monday night in New England Collegiate Conference action in Weston, Mass. The Pride moves to 11-14 overall and 7-4 in the NECC, while the Lynx fall to 1-18 and 0-10 in league matches.

The Pride used set scores of 25-19, 25-19, 23-25, 25-16, in the win. In a pre-match ceremony, the Pride honored their lone senior in Kerby Billy (Dorchester, Mass.) for his contributions to Regis College and its athletic department.

Five players registered at least six kills on the night for Regis led by a team-high 10 kills from Sean Bisnett (Oxnard, Calif.). Current NECC Rookie of the Week Brett Krahl (Santa Clarita, Calif.) added seven kills and nine blocks, while Josiah Roque (Oxnard, Calif.) had eight kills. Ryan Conte (Oxnard, Calif.) and Ryan Husher (Camarillo, Calif.) each added six kills apiece.

Lesley was led by a game-high 14 kills from Tyler Burns (Newtown, Pa.). Jess Cherry (Lancaster, Pa.) added seven kills and 11 digs, while Chris Barletta (Valrico, Fla.) had six kills and nine digs. Jacob DiDomenico (North Providence, R.I.) registered five kills and a pair of service aces as well.

The Pride jumped out to a 12-5 lead following two straight errors by Lesley in the opening set. The Lynx answered with five-straight points, including back-to-back aces from DiDomenico, to cut the deficit to only 12-10. The two teams traded points until a 5-1 run by the Pride put Regis on top 20-14. The Pride took a 24-16 lead, before three-straight points by the Lynx made it a 24-19 game. Roque knocked down a kill for the final point to make it a 25-19 win for the Pride.

Lesley took an early advantage in the second set as a Pride error made it a 5-2 game, but Regis rattled off seven-straight points to take a 9-5 lead. The Lynx hung around and got as close as 15-14 before a 4-0 spurt from Regis put them on top 19-15. Regis would hang on for a 25-19 win in the second set as Kerby Billy had a pair of kills over the final stretch.

Set three was a back-and-forth battle before Lesley took a 17-13 lead after a Pride service error. Regis answered with six-straight points to take a short-lived 19-17 lead as a 3-0 run by Lesley put them on top 20-19. Bisnett tied the game at 20-all with a kill, but Lesley scored three of the next four points to pull ahead 23-21. Two-straight Lesley errors tied it at 23-all, but the Pride returned the favor on the final two points, giving Lesley a 25-23 win in the third game.

Regis took control in the final set as a block from Conte and Brandon Tordoff (Coventry, R.I.) gave Regis a 17-8 lead and forced a Lesley timeout. The Pride eventually took a 23-11 advantage in the game following a block from Husher and Krahl. Lesley made one final push, pulling within 23-15 after two Pride errors, and a Burns kill made it 24-16. Conte ended the match with his final kill off a feed from Husher to send the Pride home with the 3-1 win.

Husher led the Pride with 19 assists on the night and also added eight digs and a pair of aces. Joe Hanrahan (Coventry, R.I.) also recorded double-digit assists with 14 on the night. Conte and Jon Fuentes (Downey, Calif.) each added five digs apiece.

Lesley's Mitchel Ulacco (Winchester, Mass.) set up the Lynx offense with a match-high 31 assists. Tyler Burns added six digs and two blocks.

Both teams are back in NECC action on Wednesday night as the Pride will travel to Newbury College for a 7:00 p.m. match with the Nighthawks, and Lesley will host Daniel Webster College in an 8:00 p.m. match.
