REGIS SWEEPS TRI-MATCH

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's volleyball team picked up a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon, defeating Newbury College, 3-2, and following that up with a 3-0 win over the City College of New York. Newbury won the third match of the day, defeating CCNY, 3-0.

The Pride have now won three straight and improve to 8-14 with the two wins, also moving to 4-4 in the New England Collegiate Conference with the win over Newbury. Newbury wrapped up the day at 7-11 overall and 4-5 in the NECC, while CCNY falls to 5-19 with the two setbacks.

 

Regis College 3, Newbury College 2 (25-20, 14-25, 18-25, 25-15, 15-9)
Regis jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the match by taking the first set, but dropped the next two to fall behind 2-1. They rebounded for a 25-15 win in game four to force a fifth game, where they defeated the Nighthawks 15-9 for the conference victory.

Marcos Aguirre (Norwalk, Calif.) led the Pride attack with 11 kills and five blocks, while Ryan Conte (Oxnard, Calif.) joined him in double digit kills with 10 on the day. Brett Krahl (Santa Clarita, Calif.) added eight kills, while Brandon Tordoff (Coventry, R.I.), Ryan Husher (Camarillo, Calif.) and Sean Bisnett (Oxnard, Calif.) had six kills apiece. Husher added a team high-31 assists and seven total blocks, while Tordoff added 10 total blocks, and Bisnett led the team with nine digs.

Newbury was led by 14 kills from Chi Yin Li (Framingham, Mass.), with Wade Robidoux (Agawam, Mass.) adding 12 kills. Nile Fox (Hampton, Va.) also chipped in eight kills, six digs, and three blocks. Michael Holihan (Northampton, Pa.) posted a game-high 41 assists and nine digs, while Danny Tiner (Salem, N.H.) had nine kills of his own.

 

Newbury College 3, CCNY 0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-19)
The Nighthawks rebounded in the second match of the day, sweeping CCNY. Danny Tiner led the way with 11 kills, while Wade Robidoux added eight of his own. Nile Fox and Chi Yin Li had six kills apiece, with Li added a team-high 13 digs and two aces. Michael Holihan dished out 28 assists to go with three kills and three digs.

CCNY was led by a double-double of 13 kills and 11 digs from Anthony Reyes (Ozone Park, N.Y.). Jeffrey Yin (Staten Island, N.Y.) added five kills and 13 digs, while Leonel Pascual (Bronx, N.Y.) had four kills and 12 digs. Pascual and Reyes added two blocks apiece.

 

Regis College 3, CCNY 0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22)
Ryan Husher posted a double-double of 10 kills and 21 assists to lead the Pride to a 3-0 sweep of the Beavers. Sean Bisnett added seven kills and a match-high 14 digs, while Brett Krahl had eight kills and four total blocks. Ryan Conte chipped in five kills, seven digs, and a pair of aces, with Joe Hanrahan (Coventry, R.I.) adding 17 assists on the day.

Reyes just missed his second double-double of the day with 11 kills and nine digs. Jeffrey Yin had five kills and 10 digs. Oleksandr Boychuk (Flushing, N.Y.) handed out 18 assists and added a service ace in the setback.
