ROQUE’S CAREER NIGHT NOT ENOUGH IN PRIDE SETBACK

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College freshman Josiah Roque (Oxnard, Calif.) knocked down a career-high 14 kills, but it was not enough as the Pride dropped a 3-1 decision to Lasell College on Monday night in non-conference men's volleyball action. The Lasers (12-3) used set scores of 25-18, 21-25, 25-20, 25-20 to defeat the Pride (2-11).

Set one was a back and forth battle until a quick 5-0 run by Lasell staked the visitors to a 14-10 lead that forced a Regis timeout. The Pride clawed their way back into the contest as a Ryan Conte (Oxnard, Calif.) block made it a 16-15 deficit, but a Pride error followed by a Dan Raffol (Natick, Mass.) kill gave Lasell a three point cushion. The Lasers never looked back as they held at least a five point lead the rest of the set in taking the opener 25-18.

Lasell raced out to an early 12-7 lead following an Andrew Glenn (Westport, Conn.) service ace, before the Pride scored five-straight points to tie the game 12-12. Regis pulled ahead 16-15 after a Brandon Tordoff (Coventry, R.I.) service ace, and a Marcos Aguirre (Norwalk, Calif.) ace a couple of points later gave Regis a 20-18 lead and forced a Lasell timeout.

The Lasers made a late push as a Raffol kill made it a 22-21 game, but a block from Roque and Brett Krahl (Santa Clarita, Calif.) followed by a Krahl ace got the Pride to 24-21, and a Tordoff solo block tied the match at 1-1 with the Pride's 25-21 win.

Set three was controlled by Lasell as they knocked down 11 kills, led by three kills apiece from Tristan Davis (Rochester, N.Y.) and Ryan Jackson (Canton, Ohio) en route to the 25-20 victory. The Pride struggled from the service line, committing six service errors in the game.

Regis and Lasell were tied as late as 8-8 in the fourth game, but a 6-2 run by the Lasers gave them a 16-10 advantage and forced a Pride timeout. An Aguirre kill knifed the deficit to 21-18, and a Ryan Conte kill following a Regis timeout made it a 24-19 game before Ryan Jackson ended the match with a kill to give Lasell the 3-1 win.

Both teams struggled from the service line as they committed 16 service errors apiece. The Lasers swung .194 for the game, compared to a .119 showing from the Pride.

In addition to his game-high 14 kills, Roque added seven digs and an ace. Ryan Conte chipped in nine kills and 10 digs, while Marcos Aguirre had eight kills and five digs. Sean Bisnett (Oxnard, Calif.) led the Pride defense with a game-high 13 digs. Ryan Husher (Camarillo, Calif.) dished out 31 assists and added seven digs.

Lasell was paced by 11 kills and nine digs from Dan Raffol. Tristan Davis had eight kills and three blocks, while Jeffrey Vautrin (Chicopee, Mass.), Dalton Whitman (Meriden, Conn.), and Ryan Jackson combined for 18 kills. Andrew Glenn posted a game-high 38 assists and added seven digs.

The Crimson and Gold are back in action on Wednesday night when they return to New England Collegiate Conference action with a 7:00 p.m. match against Daniel Webster College. Lasell will host #14 Wentworth on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
