REGIS DROPS PAIR IN TRI-MATCH

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College dropped a 3-1 decision to Southern Vermont College on Saturday morning in New England Collegiate Conference men's volleyball action. The Pride also fell to Emerson College, 3-0, in the nightcap, while the Lions won the middle match against the Mountaineers, 3-0.

The Pride wrapped up the day at 2-7 overall and 0-2 in the NECC, while Southern Vermont stands at 7-2 overall and 1-0 in league games. Emerson improves to 6-4 with the two victories.

 

Southern Vermont 3, Regis College 1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-23)
In the opening match of the day, Southern Vermont rebounded from a loss in the opening set to grab a 3-1 win over Regis College in a New England Collegiate Conference matchup. Keven Walley (Pico Rivera, Calif.) posted a match-high 17 kills to lead the Mountaineers, while Stewart Ramirez (Los Angeles, Calif.) added 15 kills and Scott Fitzgerald (Queensbury, N.Y.) chipped in 12 of his own. Elmer Olivares (Miami, Fla.) led the defense with 11 digs, with Fitzgerald adding nine of his own. Joey Dighton (Riverside, Calif.) had six kills, seven digs, and seven total blocks on the day. Herson Canta (Lagunitas, Calif.) dished out a match-high 47 assists in the win.

The Pride were led by a double-double of 10 kills and 13 digs from Ryan Husher (Camarillo, Calif.). Brandon Tordoff (Coventry, R.I.) added eight kills and five total blocks, with Josiah Roque (Oxnard, Calif.) and Marcos Aguirre (Norwalk, Calif.) chipping in seven kills apiece. Jon Fuentes (Downey, Calif.) posted a match-high 16 digs, while Joe Hanrahan (Coventry, R.I.) had a double-double with 30 assists and 12 digs. Brett Krahl (Santa Clarita, Calif.) had seven total blocks, with Husher and Josiah Roque adding four blocks apiece.

 

Emerson 3, Southern Vermont 0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-22)
Emerson and Southern Vermont met in the second match of afternoon with the Lions sweeping the Mountaineers 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-22). Leading the way for Emerson was senior Connor Burton (Valencia, Calif.) who carried the offensive load for the Lions with 10 kills. Burton also contributed with three digs and three blocks. Junior Jackson Wiley (Los Angeles, Calif.) had nine kills and nine digs, junior Brendan McGonigle (Los Angeles, Calif.) doled out 26 assists, added five digs and four kills. Junior Jared Gross (Wexford, Pa.) led the squad with 12 defensive digs and freshman Stig Regan (Kailua, Hawaii) had the most blocks in the contest (4).

The Mountaineers had two players who recorded double-digit kills. Freshman Stewart Ramirez contributed with a double-double by registering a match-high 13 kills while adding 12 digs. Senior Keven Walley had 11 kills, six digs and a block, senior Scott Fitzgerald added eight kills, seven digs and three blocks. Senior Herson Canta dished out a game-high 37 assists and senior Tino Escovedo led the Southern Vermont defense with a game-high 13 digs.

 

Emerson 3, Regis 0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-23)
Regis College wrapped up the day with a 3-0 setback to Emerson. Marcos Aguirre posted a team-high nine kills, and Brett Krahl added six kills and three blocks. Brandon Tordoff and Ryan Conte each added four kills apiece. Ryan Husher had his second double-double of the day with 18 assists and 11 digs. Sean Bisnett (Oxnard, Calif.) chipped in eight digs as well.

Emerson's Jackson Wiley led the Lions with 21 kills and six digs. Connor Burton added eight kills, with Nick Rusk (Weston, Fla.) chipping in seven kills, five aces, and a team-high 10 digs. Jared Gross added eight digs, and Ben Hillman (South Pasadena, Calif.) had seven of his own. Brendan McGonigle dished out 37 assists and added five digs and a pair of blocks.
