BLAZERS EDGE PRIDE IN NECC MATCH

WESTON, Mass. – Elms College defeated Regis College, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference men's volleyball action in Weston, Mass. The Blazers (9-4, 4-0 NECC) used set scored of 25-14, 25-17, and 25-8 to defeat the Pride (0-6, 0-5 NECC). David Amicangioli (Arlington, Mass.) posted three kills to lead Regis.

Elms took set one, 25-14 behind four service aces – including two from Angel Castro (Carolina, Puerto Rico). The Blazers swung .478 in the opening frame and had 14 kills.

Regis grabbed an early 4-0 lead in the second set as Drew Wilder (Brockton, Mass.) and Brandon Yarrell-Bacote (Bronx, N.Y.) blocked an Elms attempt for an early point. The Pride tied the score at 7-7 following a Chris Tran (Quincy, Mass.) kill, but Elms eventually gained control of the match and took a 22-13 lead following a Castro kill on a pass from Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.). Regis scored four late points to make it 23-17, however the Blazers received back-to-back kills from Angel Castro and Stephen Cameron (Newington, Conn.) to take the second set, 25-17.

The Pride fell behind early in the third set and were forced to call a timeout trailing 8-3 following a Rainey kill. An Andrew Carroll (Natick, Mass.) kill made it a 12-5 game, but Elms ended the match on a 13-3 run to seal the 3-0 victory.

Amicangioli led the Pride with three kills while also posting a pair of assists and a service ace. Drew Wilder and Andrew Carroll each had two kills apiece and Carroll added a team-high seven assists to go along with four digs. Chris Tran also had four digs in the setback.

Angel Castro led the Blazers with 12 kills and also added four service aces and two digs. Kordel Latimer (Lynn, Mass.) also reached double-digits in kills with 11 while Daniel Lebron (San Juan, Puerto Rico) handed out 34 assists to go with six digs. Stephen Cameron had six kills and six digs to go along with a match-high nine service aces.

Regis returns to action on Wednesday night when the Pride travels to Endicott College for a 7:00 p.m. match. Elms takes on those same Gulls next Saturday when the Blazers travel to Beverly, Mass. for a 5:00 p.m. game.
