GULLS FLY OVER PRIDE IN STRAIGHT SETS

WESTON, Mass. – Endicott College defeated Regis College 3-0 (25-8, 25-12, 25-13) on Wednesday night in New England Collegiate Conference men's volleyball action in Weston, Mass. With the setback, Regis drops to 0-5 overall and 0-4 in the NECC while Endicott improves to 4-5 and 2-0 in league play. David Amicangioli (Arlington, Mass.) posted a match-high seven kills in the setback.

Endicott head coach Tim Byram picked up his 200th career victory at the helm of the men's volleyball program with the win. Byram improved to 200-154 (.565) in his 12 year career with the Gulls

The Gulls raced out to an early lead in the first set, taking a 14-3 lead on a Thomas Stoeckinger (Malibu, Calif.) kill off a feed from Carter Roche (Clifton Park, N.J.). The Pride registered its first kill of the match on a David Amicangioli attack that made it 14-4. The Gulls closed out the set on an 11-3 run to take the first set by a score of 25-7.

Regis struck first in set number two as back-to-back errors by Endicott staked the Pride to an early 2-0 lead. The Pride held an early 3-1 lead on another kill by Amicangioli, but the Gulls scored four straight points – capped off by a Carter Roche service ace – that forced a Pride timeout with the score 5-3. Regis scored three straight points to make it a 16-8 game, but the Gulls tallied five of the next six points to take a 21-9 advantage, then closed out set two with kills from Mike Coniglione (Glenville, N.Y.) and Kevin Duggan (Glastonbury, Conn.) that wrapped up set two, 25-12.

The Pride scored first in the final set, but the Gulls again put together an early run as Travis Netherton's (Waukegan, Ill.) block made it a 7-2 game, prompting another Pride timeout. Regis rallied and scored four-straight points of their own to make it a 13-9 game, but it was too little too late as Endicott ended the match on a 12-4 run to seal the three set sweep.

Regis was led by seven kills and three digs from David Amicangioli. Drew Wilder chipped in with three kills and four digs of his own, while Si Pan Leong (Boston, Mass.) posted a team-high five digs in the setback. Andrew Carroll (Natick, Mass.) helped set up the offense with nine assists.

Endicott's Josh Anderson (La Canada, Calif.) registered six kills to lead the Gulls and Kevin Duggan added five of his own in the win. Jeremy Siden (Natick, Mass.) finished with four kills, while Kristian Catalan (Sudbury, Mass.) helped pace the defense with a team-high five digs with the Gulls adding five total blocks in the match. Jeremy Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) and Carter Roche combined for 27 of the team's 32 assists.

The Crimson and Gold look to grab its first win of the year on Saturday afternoon when the Pride hosts Elms College in an NECC match scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Endicott will take on Southern Vermont College on Saturday as well with a 3:00 p.m. start time in Bennington, Vt.
