PRIDE ADD TWO MORE WINS TO SEASON IN WEEKEND TOURNAMENT

Weston, Mass.—The first-year Regis College men’s volleyball program added two more wins Sunday in the Medgar Evers Tournament hosted by Medgar Evers College. Regis College (4-16, 0-8 NECVA) defeated Medgar Evers 3-0 (30-25, 30-28, 30-22) and St. Joseph’s of Brooklyn 3-1 (30-25, 30-19, 18-30, 30-28) Sunday.

Playing without three crucial players, the Pride’s two middles and starting right setter, Regis still flexed its dominance in match one versus Medgar Evers. With a sluggish start Regis found its game defeating Evers by five in set one. Captain Andrew Carroll (Natick, Mass.) had 10 kills with five aces.

Sophomore Si Pan Leong (Boston, Mass.) played both the front and back rows for the Pride. Leong had 10 digs for Regis, while freshman Thomas Paoletta (Plastow, N.H.) contributed 21 assists.

Entering its second match against St. Joseph’s of Brooklyn having been on top of its game against Evers, Regis took set one with ease. Carroll again had a great serving day, lifting the Pride to a 17-7 lead.

St. Joe’s would close in on the lead (24-18), but the Pride held strong to take the game while only giving up a point. Regis would lose set three, but crawled from being behind in set four 20-10, to a 30-28 victory.

In the second match Carroll finished with 17 kills and six service aces, Kevin Prescilla finished with 14 kills, seven being in set four, and Paoletta finished with his first-ever double-double with 35 digs and 11 assists.

Regis will return home Tuesday, March 16 to host Lesley University at 7:00 p.m.
