MEN'S VOLLEYBALL NOTCHES FIRST WIN OF INAUGURAL SEASON

Weston, Mass.—Winning its first match in its inaugural season, Regis College men's volleyball defeated Albertus Magnus 3-2 Tuesday night. Zatrick Pinkney contributed at the net with repeated crucial blocks for Regis. With a 20-15 lead in set one Regis never looked back as it won its first set 30-19. Thomas Paoletta and Andrew Carroll helped lift the Pride from being down by five in set two, to an even 14-14 score. Pinkney would again block several attacks by Albertus Magnus to the floor. Strong serving by Si Pan Leong and Andrew Hadden helped the Pride take a 30-21 second set win.

With a 2-0 lead over Albertus, Regis entered set three with a chip on its shoulder. Chris Tran stepped into the game to offer a huge block for Regis, giving the Pride even more hope that its first match was in the bag. With an early lead Regis soon found out that Albertus Magnus would not lay down easily. Regis would find itself on the wrong side of the stat sheet, falling 30-21 in set three.

In its third set lose, Regis needed to win game four to take the match. The two young programs would battle to stay ahead of the other, but Albertus, having been defeated two games prior was determined to even the match. Albertus Magnus would win set four, tying the match at 2-2, and forcing a match-winning set five.

An exciting match of back-and-forth points, Pinkney again would block attacks to the floor converting into points for Regis. James Guaragna and Paoletta did their share with persistent attacks into the heart of the Albertus Magnus defense. Up by two at 8-6, Regis' Kevin Prescilla turned up the attack, giving the Pride a 10-7 lead, then 13-11. The Pride would hold steadfast until it earned its last two points to win the match at 15-11.
