Men's Tennis Sweeps Wheelock to Clinch Berth in Title Match

WESTON, Mass. - The top-seeded Regis (Mass.) men's tennis team will compete for its fifth consecutive New England Collegiate Conference championship on Monday evening, after the Pride defeated #4 Wheelock College 9-0 in the NECC Semifinals on Sunday afternoon at the Regis Tennis Center.

With the win, the Pride improves to 16-5 on the season and advance to face the winner of the other semifinal, either Becker or Lesley, in tomorrow's title match. The loss ends Wheelock's season at 0-11.

The Pride got off to a strong start in doubles play on the afternoon, winning all three matches 8-0. Seniors Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) and Jarid Polley (North Reading, Mass.) picked up the first Regis point of the day at third doubles, defeating Wheelock's Tyler Maheu (Newport, N.H.) and Kadeem Apply (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.). Luke Horton (Bass Harbor, Maine) and Nolan Bebarta (Danville, Calif.) followed suit for the Pride at second doubles, before junior Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) and freshman Gabriel Montealegre (Managua, Nicaragua) closed out the doubles sweep at first doubles.

Freshman Kyle Dugat (Houston, Texas) opened up singles play with a win at sixth singles for the Pride, defeating Apply 6-0, 6-0 to put Regis on the brink of clinching. Classmate Evan Russell (East Wareham, Mass.) clinched the match minutes later, defeating Maheu at fifth singles by the identical 6-0, 6-0 score.

Senior Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) won at fourth singles, Bebarta at second singles, sophomore Cam Charbonneau (Guilford, Conn.) at third singles and Harrow at first singles to wrap up the clean sweep for Regis.
