Polley Breaks All-Time Singles Record as Pride Ends Regular Season with Win

WESTON, Mass. - Senior Jarid Polley (North Reading, Mass.) won his program record 56th win in singles play on Tuesday afternoon, leading the Regis (Mass.) men's tennis team to a sweep of Lesley in New England Collegiate Conference action at Regis Tennis Center. Polley broke the record at third singles, where he beat his opponent, Lesley freshman Patrick Corcoran (West Hartford, Conn.) 6-0, 6-0.

With the win, the Pride improves to 15-5 on the season, closing out its regular season at 6-0 in NECC play. The Lynx fall to 3-8 on the year, including 2-4 in the NECC.

Polley's win breaks a tie with 2015 graduate Michael Beluch, who finished his career at 55-24 in singles play.

The Pride jumped out to an early lead with three wins in doubles play on the afternoon, led at first doubles by junior Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) and Gabriel Montealegre (Managua, Nicaragua), who beat Lesley's Niko Marcolini (Newbury, Mass.) and Beowulf Urban (Blue Hills, Maine) 8-0. The Pride's Luke Horton (Bass Harbor, Maine) and two-time defending NECC Rookie of the Week Nolan Bebarta (Danville, Calif.) won by the same 8-0 margin at second doubles, as did Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) and Cam Charbonneau (Guilford, Conn.) at third doubles.

The Pride carried the momentum into singles play, continuing to dominate the Lynx. Lesley was only able to win one point in all six singles matches, coming at fourth singles, where Lynx junior Max Anthony (Boston, Mass.) fell to Charbonneau 6-1, 6-0. Montealegre, Horton, Polley and freshmen Evan Russell (East Wareham, Mass.) and Kyle Dugat (Houston, Texas) were all 6-0, 6-0 winners at singles for the Pride.

Both teams advance to take part in the NECC Tournament, set to get under way with the conference semifinals on Saturday.
