WESTON, Mass. – After several postponements due to inclement weather, the Regis (Mass.) men's tennis team finally got out on its home surface this spring, convincingly beating Wheelock 9-0 in the Pride's New England Collegiate Conference home opener Monday at the Regis Tennis Center.

The day was a momentous one for senior Jarid Polley (North Reading, Mass.) whose 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles over Brody Niemann (Tolland, Conn.) gave him 55 singles wins for his career, equaling the all-time mark set in 2015 by Michael Beluch.

The Pride (10-5, 2-0 NECC) set the tone for the match with three love victories in doubles play. Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) and Gabriel Montealegre (Managua, Nicaragua) at the one, Polley and Kyle Dugat (Houston, Texas) at the two, and Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) and Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) at the three all won 8-0.

Singles play saw more of the same with straight-set love wins on all but the one and two courts. Polley's win at third singles helped clinch the five wins the Pride needed and etch his name among the Regis tennis all-time greats. Evan Russell (East Wareham, Mass.) followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win with Montealegre topping Arvin Hedayaty (Tarzana, Calif.) at the one and Nolan Bebarta (Danville, Calif) beating Amos Jackson (El Paso, Texas) at the two to complete the 9-0 win.

The Pride hope to take the court tomorrow against UMass-Boston at 4:30 p.m. weather permitting, while Wheelock (0-7, 0-4 NECC) next plays at Lesley on Wednesday, Apr. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
