Men's Tennis Tops Penn State-Berks, Remains Perfect On Spring Trip

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Regis (Mass.) men's tennis team improved to 3-0 to start the spring winning its second match of the day, an 8-1 defeat of Penn State-Berks Tuesday night at the Lake Cane Tennis Courts. The win gives the Pride the most victorious since the team began organized spring break trips

Doubles play saw the Pride (5-5) and Defenders (2-3) split on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts before a big tiebreak win at one doubles by Luke Horton (Bass Harbor, Maine) and Nolan Bebarta (Danville, Calif.) gave Regis the one-point lead heading into singles play. Horton and Bebarta outlasted the PSU pair of Will Byler (Lancaster, Pa.) and Ryan Fritz (Ephrata, Pa.) with a 7-3 tiebreak win.

Evan Russell (East Wareham, Mass.) clinched the win on the No. 6 singles court with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Sneh Patel (Sinking Spring, Pa.) but the most exciting matches of the day came on the third, fourth and fifth courts. Bebarta won at the three 7-6 (7-3), 6-2, Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) won a three-set match at the five and Cam Charbonneau (Guilford, Conn.) rallied to beat Nick Volk 2-6, 6-2, 10-8 on the No. 4 court.

The Pride return to Lake Cane Wednesday to take on Moravian at 1:30 p.m. with Penn State-Berks next in action against the University of Northwestern-St. Paul on Thursday, Mar. 9.
