Men's Tennis Tops JWU 9-0, Completes Sweep

WESTON, Mass. - For the second time in a matter of hours, the Regis (Mass.) men's tennis team came out victorious, this time beating the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University by a final of 9-0.

The win was second of the day for the Pride, who earlier Sunday topped UMass Dartmouth by the same score. The pair of wins draws the Pride even at 2-2 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 0-1.

Regis started off the afternoon by taking care of the Wildcats in doubles play. At first doubles, the Pride's Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) and Matt Quattrociocchi (Germantown, Md.) snagged their second 8-4 victory of the day, beating JWU's Andre Barbero and Nick Auffret.The Pride's Nolan Bebarta (Danville, Calif.) and Jarid Polley (North Reading, Mass.) won at second second doubles, beating Franz Fonck and Taylor Farmer 8-3.  Thirs doubles needed a tie-break to determine the winner, but in the end, it was Luke Horton (Bass Harbor, Maine) and Kyle Dugat (Houston, Texas) of Regis who came out on top by a score of 9-8 (9-7) over Ryan Schiele and Jack Hopkins.

Harrow's victory at first singles proved to be the clincher for the Pride, as he beat Barbero 6-0, 6-1. The singles match of the day was at No. 3 singles, which saw Pride rookie Bebarta duke it out with Fonck for three sets, before Bebarta came out on top 6-2, 5-7, 10-5.

In other singles action, Horton defeated Auffret at second singles 6-2, 6-3, Polley topped Farmer 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4, Quattrociocchi upended Schiele at No. 5 7-5, 6-4, and Regis senior Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) defeated Tyler Dupee 6-0, 6-3.

Next up for Regis, they will travel to Clark University for a Wednesday afternoon showdown against the Cougars. The Wildcats take part in the Hall of Fame Tournament in Newport, R.I. starting on Saturday.
