QUINCY, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) Pride men's tennis team served up its season opener on Wednesday afternoon but it came in a 5-1 loss to Eastern Nazarene at the ENC Tennis Courts.

The Pride (0-1) earned a win in doubles play to keep the match close heading into singles. Jarid Polley (North Reading, Mass.) and Luke Horton (Bass Harbor, Maine) earned a hard-fought 9-8 win on the No. 2 court over Shaw Campbell (Redding, Calif.) and Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.).

Santiago Camero (Toronto, Ontario) and Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) collected an 8-6 victory at the No. 1 doubles position over Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) and Nolan Bebarta (Danville, Calif.).

Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) and Kaden Swarr (Brighton, Colo.) posted an 8-5 win at the No. 3 slot over Matt Quattrociocchi (Germantown, Md.) and Cam Charbonneau (Guilford, Conn.).

Polley and Horton's win proved to be the lone one on the day as Eastern Nazarene notched three wins in singles action to clinch the match before play was stopped due to darkness and inclement weather.

Camero prevailed 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 3 singles position in his first collegiate match over Bebarta.

Pierson kicked off his collegiate career with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the fourth singles match against Polley.

Steelman rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 5 singles spot over Quattrociocchi.

Laurent Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) and Siercke were both involved in closely-contested matches at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles slots when play was halted.

Ruttkowski dropped the opening set 7-5 and was tied with Harrow 5-5 in the second. Siercke edged Horton in the first set 7-6, conceded the second frame 6-4 and trailed 5-1 in the third when the match was called.

At the No. 6 position, Swarr held a one-set lead over Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) after taking the set 6-2. Swarr and Hildreth were knotted at 2-2 when play was stopped.

Regis returns to the court Friday, Sept. 16 at Franklin Pierce with Eastern Nazarene taking part in the Stonehill Doubles Invitational Saturday, Sept. 10.
