MEN'S TENNIS CAPTURES 2014 NECC CHAMPIONSHIP

WESTON, Mass. – The No. 1 seeded Regis College men's tennis team defeated No. 2 Newbury College, 9-0 to earn the 2014 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship on Sunday afternoon in Weston, Mass. The win marked the Pride's second straight NECC Title, as they wrap up the season at a program best record of 15-5 overall. The Nighthawks close out the year at 12-5 after appearing in their program's first NECC Finals.

Regis jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles matches. Tournament MVP Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Jarid Polley (Reading, Mass.) defeated Christian Repunte (Burlington, Mass.) and Antonios Tran (Chelsea, Mass.) at top doubles, 8-6. Both duos were named to the All-Tournament Doubles Team.

Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) and Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) used the same score to get past the Nighthawks' Wayne Gethers (Cambridge, Mass.) and Joey Verdon (Catskill, N.Y.) at third doubles before the All-Tournament Doubles tandem of Nathan Cohen (Randolph, Mass.) and Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) took down John Morgan (Cumberland, R.I.) and Gerard Font-Raventos (Barcelona, Spain), 8-2, at the second slot.

Polley gave the Crimson & Gold a 4-0 lead when he defeated Font-Raventos in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) at No. 3 singles. Senior Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) officially clinched the match when he took down Verdon, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) then beat Gethers, 6-3, 6-1 at fifth singles just before White finished off Morgan (6-3, 6-2) at No. 4 singles. Beluch was also able to get past Tran at top singles via set scores of 6-2, 6-3, while Morgenbesser closed out the day with a win over Repunte at No. 2 singles (6-3, 0-6, 11-9).

Beluch, Tran, Repunte, and Morgenbesser were each named to the All-Tournament Singles Team for their standout performances. They are joined by Becker College's Connor Allison (Hillsboro, Ore.) and Mitchell College's Zachary Simmons (Coventry, Conn.).
