REGIS MEN'S TENNIS TOPS MITCHELL, 7-2

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Regis College men's tennis team collected its seventh straight win by defeating Mitchell College, 7-2, on Tuesday afternoon in a New England Collegiate Conference matchup at the Mack Tennis Courts.

The Pride (7-5 overall, 4-0 NECC) picked up their second win over the Mariners (2-2 overall, 1-2 NECC) in less than a week. Regis earned two of the three doubles points to start the match before taking all but one of the singles matches to seal the victory.

Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Jarid Polley (Reading, Mass.) cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles while Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) and Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) won by an 8-2 final at No. 3. The battle at No. 2 doubles was heated, as Mitchell's Zachary Simmons (Coventry, Conn.) and Graham Cavanaugh (Redding, Conn.) bested Nathan Cohen (Randolph, Mass.) and Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) by a final of 8-6.

The most competitive singles match of the day came at the top spot as Simmons and Beluch needed three sets to settle things. Simmons took the first set 6-4, but Beluch bounced back to secure the match by winning the final two sets by scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Beluch remained undefeated on the season, though Simmons became only the second player to take a set off him in league play over the past three years.

Mitchell's lone singles point came at the No. 3 spot courtesy of Cavanaugh, who won the first set and was leading in the second when Cohen retired. However, the Pride dominated the remaining singles contests in straight sets, with Morgenbesser winning at No. 2, Polley at No. 4, Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) at No. 5 and Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) at No. 6.

Regis returns to action at home against Wheelock College on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
