REGIS BLANKS SALVE REGINA, 9-0

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Regis College men's tennis team defeated Salve Regina, 9-0 on the road on Thursday afternoon and improve to 3-5 on the season. The Seahawks drop to 0-1 on their season with the loss.

Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.), Jarid Polley (Reading, Mass.), Nathan Cohen (Randolph, Mass.), and Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, Mass.) registered wins in both singles and doubles play to lead the Pride in victory. 

Beluch and Polley teamed up in first doubles for an 8-2 win, while Cohen and Morgenbesser defeated their opponents, 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) and Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) took down Salve's Matthew Carroll (Hackensack, N.J.) and C.J. Maksut (Saco, Maine), 8-2 at No. 3 doubles as the Pride headed into singles play with a 3-0 lead.

Beluch knocked off Colin Gunning (Norwell, Mass.) (6-0, 6-1) at No. 1 singles, while Morgenbesser won at the No. 2 position (6-0, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7)). Cohen got past Monaf Awwa (Old Lyme, Conn.) via set scores of 6-3 and 6-1 at third singles, while Polley won his match at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0.

Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) and Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) closed out the match with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

The Pride return to the courts this Saturday at 1 p.m. when they host Becker College for their New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opener.
