WENHAM, Mass. – Regis College dropped a 6-3 decision to host Gordon College in men's tennis action on Thursday afternoon. The Pride fall to 0-3 on the year while Gordon picks up its first win of the 2013-14 campaign.

Regis jumped out to an early 2-1 lead following doubles play as Nathan Cohen (Randolph, Mass.) and Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) combined for an 8-3 win over Richie Armand (Hempstead, N.Y.) and Joe Daugherty (Norfolk, Va.) in No. 2 doubles. Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) and Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) posted an 8-2 win at the No. 3 spot.

The Scots quickly rebounded with an 8-5 win for first doubles team, sophomore Zach Hall (Sugarland, Texas) and senior Kenny Gaudio (Miller Place, N.Y.). The pair fought through a back-and-forth match before taking the last two sets—capped off by a strong serving performance from Hall to take the eighth game and the match. They won 8-5 over Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Jarid Polley (Reading, Mass.) of Regis.

The Fighting Scots showed rebounded in singles play, taking five of the six matchups for the 6-3 win. Junior Dan Christensen (Attleboro, Mass.) won 6-1, 6-0 in sixth singles, followed by Joe Daugherty completing 6-4, 6-3 win over Regis counterpart Nick Hildreth in the five hole.

Freshman Dan Simonds, playing third singles, went quietly in his first match of his collegiate career. Simonds lost 6-2, 6-1 which evened the overall match tally at three points a side.

Gordon would take the remaining three contests.

Kenny Gaudio completed his straight-set sweep in second singles, with a 6-3, 6-0 win. Gaudio went down 2-3 in the first set, but did not drop a single game thereafter. In No. 1 singles, Zach Hall finished off Regis' Beluch, with a 7-5, 6-2 win, giving Gordon the overall match victory in their fall opener.

The evening ended with a well-fought victory for Gordon's Richie Armand in fourth singles, beating Andy White in three sets. Armand shook off a heartbreaking first set in which he led and rallied to a second set win to force a final stanza. Because the Scots had already taken the match overall, Armand slipped by White in a third-set tiebreak, 10-6 to nab the sixth point of the match for Gordon.

The men's tennis team enjoys a short break and will take on Assumption College in a non-league game on October 8 in Worcester, Mass. at 3:00 p.m.
